Scattered pages into one PDF
The pages someone needs are rarely next to each other. An expense claim wants four receipts from a forty-page statement. A visa application wants three specific pages of a sixty-page bank record. A reviewer wants the figures, which are on 12, 19 and 27.
The job is the same each time: take pages from several places in one document and end up with a single PDF containing exactly those.
One document in, one document out
This is a different operation from merging. Merging takes several files and makes one. Here there is only ever one source file; what changes is which of its pages end up in the new file.
It is also not splitting. Splitting produces several files — a folder or a ZIP full of parts. Here the answer is one file, however scattered the pages were.
Building the selection
Scattered pages are built by pointing: each page is a numbered thumbnail, tapping one picks it, tapping it again drops it. Because a plain tap adds rather than replaces, collecting seven pages spread through the document is seven taps and needs no modifier key — which also means it works the same on a phone as on a desktop.
When the numbers are already known, typing is faster: 3, 18, 42-46. Mixing both works too — type the range you know, then tap the two you spot while scrolling.
Two helpers save time on the common shapes. Invert turns “everything except these four” into four taps plus one. Select all followed by dropping a handful does the same from the other end.
The output is in the document’s order
Pick 18 first and 3 second and the new PDF is still 3 then 18.
That is deliberate. Extraction decides which pages are kept, not what order they are in — the picking order is how you searched the document, not a statement about sequence. Extract Pages keeps the document’s order.
If the order is the thing you want to change, that is a separate job: Organize PDF moves pages inside one document.
Check the list, not the count
The selected-page count shows the total; to check which pages you picked, read the list.
The Pages field always shows the current selection written out — 3, 18, 42-46 — in the order the new file will have. For a scattered selection that one line is faster to check than scrolling back through thumbnails, and it is the same line whether you built the selection by tapping or by typing.
What the new file carries
Existing selectable text remains selectable, vectors stay vectors, and page sizes and rotation are unchanged. Some features do not come across in Extract Pages V1, and it is better to know which before you send the result to someone. What Extract Pages preserves and changes goes through them.
Doing it in Extract Pages
- Open the PDF. It stays on your device.
- Tap the pages you want, wherever they are, or type them in the Pages field.
- Read the field once, then Save.
